FRINGE FESTIVAL REVIEW--
"DOWN AROUND BROWN TOWN"
“Down Around Brown Town” is in town. Nothing becomes a legend most than that his music continues to live. (With apologies to the Blackglama ad and with an acknowledgment of the famous James Brown cape.) Frit and Frat Fuller of the Kin Dance Company created, directed and choreographed this loving tribute to the great showman James Brown. Frank Lawson, Promise Ryan and Melissa Youngblood deliver the music. Acrobatics and ballet, tap and hiphop are combined in fearless steps and moves. Jerimiah Tatum and Leia McVickers give a heartwrenching rendition of “Bewildered.” Hiroshi Hamanishi’s energetic tap dancing is exciting as he takes it to its limits. All of the dancers display remarkable skill and deserve star billing: Kenju Yamaguchi,, Kenya Williams, Lisa McVicker Mr. Lanz, Adama Ideozu, Shri Rhone, Charity De Loera, Sean Camron and Ezara Ezzard. If there is a fault with this production, it is that it follows the new trend for short quick musicals. At 60 minutes, this is only an appetizer for the music of a man know for his intense and energizing performances that really made a night of it. BOTTOM LINE: This show will start you on the track of saying “I feel good” but will leaving saying “Please, Please” don’t go. --CELIA SHARPE Friday, August 15, 2008
